Gujrat

Gujrat, is a town in Punjab Province of Pakistan. It is the capital of Gujrat District and the eighteenth largest town of Pakistan. Gujrat Tehsil subdivision within the Punjab Province.

Gujrat’s oldest Masjid dates from the Mughal era, and resembles Lahore’s Badshahi Masjid.

The city was established by moghul Emperor Akbar, King Jahangir in his memos records the subsequent data on Gujrat:

“At the time when His majesty Akbar visited Kashmir, a fort had been designed on the bank of that river. Having brought to this fort a body of Gujars who had passed their time in the neighbourhood in thieving and highway robbery, he established them here. As it had become the abode of Gujars, he created it a separate pargana, and gave it the name of Gujrat.”

Gujrat is an ancient town of Pakistan situated between 2 famed rivers, Jhelum stream and Chenab stream. It is delimited to the northeast by Jammu and Kashmir, to the northwest by the Jhelum stream, to the east and southeast by the Chenab stream, separating it from the districts of Gujranwala and Sialkot and to the west by Mandi Bahauddin District.
