Abbottabad, 116 kms from Rawalpindi at 1,222 m. on top of sea level, could be a neat and clean city in a very spacious valley encircled by green hills. It is a well-liked summer resort. It serves as a base for visits to Kaghan valley and the Gallies. PTDC maintains a tourist info Centre here to facilitate the guests. Places worth visiting in and around Abbottabad are; Ilyasi masjid with a water spring, Shimla hill view point. Thandiani is another enticing hill resort thirty km east of Abbottabad at an altitude of 8,800 feet.
