Microsoft launches all in one office app for Windows 10:

Microsoft is making its MS Office suite more accessible and easy to use for Windows users by launching a standalone Office app. The new app will replace the current My Office tool and will put all your Office suite applications in one place, allowing you to switch back and forth depending on your need. Your documents and projects will all be searchable and accessible from the new app. Microsoft says that it will work much like Office.com, a similar collective tool but only for people who prefer working on a web browser.

Railways plans to attract billions of dollars in investments:

Pakistan Railways is going to upgrade its track from Karachi to Peshawar via Lahore in the next five years and it has plans to attract billions of dollars in investment for its 100-year-old infrastructure. The PR track from Lahore to Peshawar via Rawalpindi will be dualized in the next five years. Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed told Senate that the Main Line-I from Karachi to Peshawar via Lahore except Khanewal-Shor Kot-Faisalabad-Shahdara Section will be upgraded under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Pakistan expecting record tourists in summer of 2019:

Amid the restoration of complete peace following a decade-long campaign against terrorism and some positive developments of late, Pakistan is eying a record number of tourists in the next summer. The international community and foreign governments’ trust in Pakistan’s security situation is growing with each passing day. This is evident from the British Airways’ announcement to resume its operations in Pakistan after a gap of 10 long years.

Punjab govt to launch air ambulance services:

Chief Minister Punjab Usman Bazdar has disclosed that the provincial government is deliberating on introducing an air ambulance service to ensure that the patients of far-flung areas reach hospitals in time. The CM made this revelation while talking to a delegation of alumni doctors of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) from the US and the UK. The delegation was led by Minister for Health, Dr. Yasmin Rashid.

QMobile phones declares bankruptcy:

Chinese smartphone makers have been getting into all kinds of trouble lately, Huawei’s case being the latest. Today we received news about Gionee, another phone maker, that is declaring bankruptcy in China. For those who don’t know, QMobile in Pakistan has been selling rebranded Gionee phones since the start. From the low-end phones to the slightly better ones, they’re always sourced from Gionee’s original phones.

Blitz wins PSL-4 tv broadcasting & digital live streaming rights:

Blitz has won the broadcasting rights for the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) fourth edition, which will be played in February in UAE and Pakistan. The company will be responsible for traditional and online transmission of the PSL 2019 within Pakistan and other countries of the world.

Extension in mobile phone registration deadline:

The Senate Standing committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, on Thursday, recommended an extension in the deadline for blocking unregistered mobile phones in the country. The parliamentary panel met with Rubina Khalid in the chair, where PTA briefed the body regarding its decision to block un-registered IMEI cell phones indicating steps taken to create awareness among the general public on the issue as directed by the committee in its last meeting.

Pakistan ranked 2nd worst in global gender equality report:

Pakistan has been ranked second worst when it comes to gender equality in a report about the gender gap globally. Out of the 149 countries in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) “Global Gender Gap Report 2018”, Pakistan only bettered Yemen to be ranked at 148th place. Pakistan was placed among the bottom bracket of nations, including Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Strangely, Pakistan is placed two notches lower than the war-devastated Syria.

Dubai based group launches B&B café & restaurant in Pakistan:

A Dubai based group, Alif Investments, a leader in Shariah Investments and the Financial Services Industry, is launching the B&B Café & Restaurant in Pakistan. The restaurant is centrally located in Karachi on one of the main arteries of the city, Shahrah-e-Quaideen in PECHS, and offers a variety of Pakistani, Continental and Chinese cuisines all under one roof.

Govt to finalize a policy for shale oil & gas extraction:

Oil and gas have become the main concerns of Pakistan nowadays. With the ongoing need of resources, Pakistan is facing hardships regarding the needs of the locals. The government of Pakistan is set to come up with the policy of utilizing shale gas and oil in a useful way. The policy is being processed under the conclusions of the study that was completed with the association of USAID, by casing upper and lower Indus Basin.

Slack ‘bans users’ who have visited US sanctioned countries:

Some users of communication service Slack have reported their accounts have been closed over visits to countries under US sanctions. The move, which Slack says is to comply with US regulations, is believed to be affecting users who have visited nations including Iran and North Korea. But many on social media say they were not warned in advance.

US charges ‘China government hackers’:

The US justice department has indicted two Chinese men accused of hacking into the computer networks of companies and government agencies in Western countries.

The pair are allegedly part of a “hacking group” known as Advanced Persistent Threat 10, affiliated with China’s main intelligence service. They have not been arrested. The US and UK have accused China of violating an agreement relating to commercial espionage.

Elon musk unveils prototype high-speed transport tunnel:

Entrepreneur Elon Musk has unveiled a prototype underground tunnel in Los Angeles which is designed to transport cars at high speed around the city.The tunnel is only a mile (1.6km) long at the moment but the goal is a network to ease chronic traffic congestion. Modified electric cars would be lowered into the tunnel and travel at speeds up to 150mph (240km/h), Musk quoted as saying last week. The tunnel has been built by Mr Musk’s Boring Company, which boasts state-of-the-art engineering techniques.

Fortnite teen hackers ‘earning thousands of pounds a week’:

Children as young as 14 are making thousands of pounds a week as part of a global hacking network built around the popular video game Fortnite. About 20 hackers told the BBC they were stealing the private gaming accounts of players and reselling them online. Fortnite is free to play but is estimated to have made more than £1bn through the sale of “skins”, which change the look of a character, and other add-ons.

Amazon’s Alexa user accesses stranger’s chats:

A user of Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa was sent 1,700 audio files from a complete stranger, after he requested access to his own recordings. Amazon described the incident as an “isolated case” and put the mistake down to human error. The user, based in Germany, said that he informed Amazon of the issue but got no reply. The files were later deleted from the link Amazon sent him but remained downloaded on his computer.

Facebook sued by top prosecutor over cambridge analytica:

Washington DC’s top prosecutor is suing Facebook in the first significant US move to punish the firm for its role in the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine filed the lawsuit on Wednesday, a published report confirmd.It accused Facebook of allowing the wholesale scraping of personal data on tens of millions of users.

Nasa hack exposes space agency staff’s data:

Nasa has emailed its staff to warn them that hackers may have stolen their personal details. The message said it suspected that two of its servers containing details of past and present employees had been compromised. It added that it did not believe any Nasa mission had been put in jeopardy. One expert noted that this was the latest in a series of breaches experienced by the space agency to have been made public since 2011.

Gatwick airport: drones ground flights:

Tens of thousands of passengers have been disrupted by drones flying over one of the UK’s busiest airports. Gatwick’s runway has been shut since Wednesday night, as devices have been repeatedly flying over the airfield. Sussex Police said it was not terror-related but a “deliberate act” of disruption, using “industrial specification” drones. About 110,000 passengers on 760 flights were due to fly on Thursday. Disruption could last “several days”.
