On Saturday, the six-engine, twin-fuselage Stratolaunch jet took off from Mojave Air and Space Port before safely landing two hours later. The project was created by late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen with the aim of air-launching small satellites into orbit. The Stratolaunch jet is highly notable for its unusual appearance as well as its gargantuan wingspan. The aircraft has now surpassed Howard Hughes’s notable H-4 Hercules, better known as the Spruce Goose, in wingspan
The massive prototype flying boat has a wingspan of 320 feet and that has now been comfortably beaten by Allen’s unusual behemoth which boasts 385 feet. As the following infographic shows, no other aircraft worldwide including the Antonov An-225 Mriya comes even close to matching the Stratolaunch jet for wingspan.
