The European Commission has published its 2019 European Innovation Scoreboard today which shows that the EU’s innovation performance has been improving for four years in a row. The scoreboard places EU countries into four innovation categories – innovation leaders, strong innovators, moderate innovators and modest innovators.
With a score of 147.74. Sweden has been named the EU’s innovation leader, followed by Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands. Bulgaria and Romania had the lowest scores with 48.72 and 34.13 respectively. On average, the EU’s innovation performance has increased 8.8 percent since 2011 and at global level, it has surpassed the United States.
