Apple chief executive Tim Cook gets $750m payout:

Apple chief executive Tim Cook has received more than five million shares in the technology giant, as he marks ten years in the job. A company filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) watchdog shows that he sold most of the shares for more than $750m (£550m).It is part of a deal he struck when he took over from co-founder Steve Jobs.

Apple iPhone 13’s Face ID is Getting a Much Needed Upgrade, Launch Date Leaked:

Apple iPhone 13 is rumored to get an improved Face ID in a smaller notch than before. These improvements have been detailed in a new report from popular tipster Jon Prosser, who says that Apple is testing a new type of Face ID that can recognize you through masks and foggy glasses. According to his report, Apple has given its employees an iPhone 12 with a special case that includes a next-gen Face ID tech at the top.

Message reactions are a thing in several popular social apps such as Instagram, Discord, Skype, and more, but it has never been a part of WhatsApp. That is about to change soon as it appears that WhatsApp is testing the feature in its latest beta version. Local Mobile Phone Production Surpasses Imports:

The production of mobile phones by local manufacturing plants has surpassed the number of mobile phones imports in the country. During Jan-July 2021, the production of mobile phones by local manufacturing plants was 12.27 million and imported mobile phones were recorded at 8.29 million. This trend reflects a positive uptake on PTA’s Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Authorization regulatory regime whereby local manufacturing within the first year of regime introduction has resulted in the production of 12.27 million phones in a short span of 7 months including 4.87 million 4G smartphones.

PTA Processed 7,862 URLs For Blocking Fake/Defamatory Content:

Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has managed to process 7,862 URLs for blocking in pursuance of the complaints and proactive search regarding fake/defamatory/impersonation online content. The 37th meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior was held under the Chairmanship of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA, in the Committee Room of NADRA Headquarters, Islamabad.

FBR Fully Restores Taxpayer Database After Cyber Attack:

The Federal Board of Revenue completed the data recovery exercise and completely restored the taxpayers’ database on Wednesday night (August 25), but a 100 percent safety system needs to be checked before being made operational to prevent cyber attacks attempts on the FBR system. Top officials told Propakistani that the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) data center has been fully restored. However, it is still in the process of checking the security systems needed for 100 percent security of the data.

Twelve-year-old boy makes £290,000 from whale NFTs:

A 12-year-old boy from London has made about £290,000 during the school holidays, after creating a series of pixelated artworks called Weird Whales and selling non-fungible tokens (NFTs).With NFTs, artwork can be “tokenised” to create a digital certificate of ownership that can be bought and sold. They do not generally give the buyer the actual artwork or its copyright. Benyamin Ahmed is keeping his earnings in the form of Ethereum – the crypto-currency in which they were sold.

Apple tweaks app pay rules in $100m settlement:

Apple app developers will soon be able to email customers and tell them how to avoid Apple’s payment systems. The current rules ban app makers from mentioning that there are ways to pay that avoid Apple’s 30% cut, even through e-mail outside the store. But as part of a $100m (£73m) legal settlement with developers, the tech giant is changing its policy.

Peloton cuts price of bike as sales growth slows:

The fitness bike maker Peloton is to slash the price of its flagship bike as people head back to the gym and do less exercise at home. The US firm will cut the price of its less expensive Bike machine by about 20% to $1,495 from Thursday. The change will take effect in all of its markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany.

Data protection ‘shake-up’ takes aim at cookie pop-ups:

The UK’s new Information Commissioner will be charged with a post-Brexit “shake up” of data rules, including getting rid of cookie pop-ups. John Edwards has been named the next head of data regulator the ICO. The government said Mr Edwards, currently the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner, would “go beyond the regulator’s traditional role”. The job would now be “balanced” between protecting rights and promoting “innovation and economic growth”.

The real victims of mass crypto-hacks that keep happening:

Taxi driver Chris is obsessively checking his phone for updates. “I’m set to lose almost 2,500 euros (£2,100) worth of cryptocurrency coins,” he says. Chris describes himself as “a small crypto-holder from Austria” and is one of many victims of a hack attack on cryptocurrency exchange Liquid Global last week. The company has insisted it will pay all customers who lost out in the $100m (£72.8m) attack. But until they get the money back, many customers are worried.
