WhatsApp is Far More Private and Secure Than iMessage: Mark Zuckerburg:
Step aside Google Messages, there is another challenger here to take on iMessage. Earlier this year, a Google executive called out iMessage for “green bubble bullying” and now Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is taking it up against Apple’s messaging service. The executive says that WhatsApp is “far more private and secure than iMessage” in a new post shared on Instagram. It brings up end-to-end encryption that is available on iPhones as well as Android phones for group chats, backups, disappearing messages, and more. He points out that these features are not available on iMessage.
Sindh Police Launches Talaash App to Help Catch Criminals:
Sindh Police is making it easier to catch criminals with the launch of a new app called Talaash. It will help investigation teams at different police departments by allowing easy access to criminal records in large databases. The launch took place at the Central Police Office (CPO) and it was attended by DIG IT Capt (retd.) Pervez Ahmed Chandio, project head PDIT Tabassum Abbasi, technical team lead, and other officials. The chief guest at this event was Sindh Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon.

Telecom Sector Incurs Over Rs. 17 Billion in Losses Due to Floods:

Sources told ProPakistani that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) asked all the telecom operators to report the losses during the flood. Millions of people on benefits are missing out on cheaper broadband tariffs because firms are failing to promote them properly, the media has said. Only around 3.5% of those eligible for the deals are currently on one. Social tariffs are low-cost broadband deals offered to customers on benefits and cost about £15 a month.
Ukraine war: US says Iranian drones breach sanctions:
The US says it agrees with Western allies that Iran’s supply of explosive drones to Russia violates UN sanctions. Kyiv was struck by so-called “kamikaze” drones on Monday, unleashed by Russia but believed to be Iranian-made. The US agrees with the French and British assessment that the drones violate UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the US State Department said. That resolution, linked to Iran’s nuclear accord, bars Iranian transfers of certain military technologies.

Located 80 miles north of Alice Springs, the Nolans Project will be in one of the hottest and driest parts of the country. Despite the extreme conditions, Arafura believes the investment will be worth it. The planned mine and processing facility could satisfy up to 5% of global demand for neodymium and praseodymium (NdPr), which are used in high-power magnets.
How are ‘kamikaze’ drones being used by Russia and Ukraine?:
It’s believed Russia has been using the Iranian-made Shahed-136 drone in the Ukraine conflict since mid-September. Also called the Geranium-2 by Russia, it has explosives in a warhead on its nose and is designed to loiter over a target until it is instructed to attack. The Shahed-136 has a wingspan of about 2.5m (8.2ft) and can be hard to detect on radar. It’s unclear exactly how many Russia has, but the US has said Iran planned to send hundreds to Russia. Iran has denied doing so.
Kanye West agrees to buy right-wing platform Parler:
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has agreed to buy the self-styled “uncancellable” social-media platform Parler, the company has announced. Last week, the star’s Twitter and Instagram accounts were locked, after he posted anti-Semitic messages. Parler is used mainly by US conservatives, and describes itself as a “free speech” alternative to mainstream platforms. Ye “will never have to fear being removed from social media again”, chief executive George Farmer posted.
Ukraine war: Russia dive-bombs Kyiv with ‘kamikaze’ drones:
Russia has hit Ukraine with a wave of attacks, dive-bombing the capital, Kyiv, with what appear to be Iranian-made “kamikaze” drones. Critical infrastructure was hit in the Kyiv, Dnipro and Sumy regions, with electricity cut in hundreds of towns and villages, the government says. At least eight people were killed, four in Kyiv and four in Sumy. Calls have mounted for sanctions on Iran, which continues to deny supplying drones to the Russian military. A week ago, the Ukrainian capital was hit by Russian missiles at rush hour, part of nationwide attacks which left 19 dead.

It comes as the first commercially available solar-powered headphones are now on sale. The models, by Swedish firm Urbanista and German sports giant Adidas, both have solar panels built into their headbands. In each case the flexible panels are made by another Swedish company, Exeger, which has spent the past decade working to make them light, thin and powerful enough to do the job.
Exeger’s boss Giovanni Fili says it is both a matter of convenience and, more importantly, doing the right thing environmentally.
Amanda Todd: Dutchman sentenced for fatal cyber-stalking:
A Dutchman convicted of sexually extorting a teenage Canadian girl who later took her own life has been sentenced to 13 years in prison. Aydin Coban, 44, will serve his sentence in the Netherlands, prosecutors in British Columbia said. He was convicted in August of child luring, child pornography, extortion and harassment of Amanda Todd. Amanda, who was then 15, posted a video in 2012 detailing how the cyber-stalker had tormented her.
Shein owner Zoetop fined $1.9m over data breach response:
The owner of fast-fashion site Shein has been fined $1.9m (£1.69m) over its handling of a data breach. Login details for 39 million Shein accounts were stolen in 2018 after its parent company, Zoetop, was targeted by hackers. New York Attorney General Letitia James said Zoetop had lied about the extent of the breach and had notified “only a fraction” of affected customers. Shein says it has taken “significant steps” to improve its cyber-security. Names, email addresses, passwords and credit-card information belonging to tens of millions of Shein account holders were stolen by hackers and sold online.
New West Midlands trains to replace 20-year-old fleet:
A new fleet of trains has been unveiled by West Midlands Railway. The 26 trains, which will run between Shrewsbury and Birmingham, replace the current 20-year-old fleet. The new carriages have 25% more capacity, easy access for all passengers, on board wi-fi and power supplies for all seats. It is part of a £690m investment which will also see 81 electric trains rolled out from early next year along with upgrades to infrastructure and depots. John Doughty, engineering director for West Midlands Trains, said it was exciting to be updating the fleet and was also good news for customers.
