- Need for proper infrastructure and transportation system for the fans
Interview with Mr. Danish Younus — cricket analystÂ
PAGE: Tell me something about yourself, please:
Danish Younus:Â I have been associated with the field of accountancy, finance and taxation for almost 20 years. During this period, I worked in many companies, most of which were related to the textile sector, which gave me the opportunity to closely observe the textile industry in Pakistan. The textile industry is considered the economic backbone of Pakistan and earns a large amount of foreign exchange through exports. I like to mingle with people, I personally think that we can learn a lot from each other.Â
Regarding sports, I would say that we should promote sports that are useful for our physical health. Nowadays our new generation spends a lot of time on mobile. They prefer to play digital games which is not suitable as there is no physical activity in these games.
PAGE: The opening ceremony of PSL 8 will be held in Multan on February 13 prior to the tournament opener between 2021 winners Multan Sultans and defending champions Lahore Qalandars. How would you comment on it?
Danish Younus: This event is being organized for the first time in Multan which will spread joy among the people of Multan and promote the trend of cricket in Multan city. This way Multan Sultan’s morale will increase and there may be some pressure on the team to win the tournament. I hope this kind of pressure will be positive for the team, it will improve their performance.
On the other hand, I would like to say one thing about Lahore Qalandars this time they have to work hard to defend their title. However, I would suggest that such a ceremony should be held in a very simple manner.
PAGE: What is your perspective about Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United since Lahore Qalandars will attempt to become the first side to win back-to-back titles; meanwhile Islamabad United will aim to become the most successful side by lifting the trophy thrice?
Danish Younus:Â The combination of both teams is very good. I think that there will be very interesting and thrilling matches between these two teams and both will work hard to win the tournament. Tough competition is expected. We will get to see very good cricket. I would especially like to say that Asif Ali is a very good batsman and can create a lot of problems for Lahore Qalandars. On the other hand, Lahore Qalandar also has Shaheen Shah Afridi who has the ability to get the batsmen out quickly.
PAGE: What is your standpoint on the stadiums as Rawalpindi will stage 11 fixtures, Karachi and Lahore will host nine matches each, whereas Multan will have five home games?
Danish Younus:Â I think it is a very good balance. As all three cities are very popular for cricket, we can expect huge crowds at the stadium to watch the matches. In the near future, we can extend its scope to more cities.
PAGE: Passionate Pakistan cricket fans back the HBL PSL 8 by turning up in big numbers. How would you comment on it?
Danish Younus:Â You are right. Too much excitement is being observed this time. We can expect a large number of fans to visit the stadium. People are very happy and satisfied as cricket is returning to Pakistan.
If we want to promote this trend in the near future, we have to pay special attention to the infrastructure and transportation system. We also have to ensure that there is no disruption to the traffic system in any city where the cricket matches are held.
