Turkiye’s Erdogan caps economy-driven gulf tour in UAE

Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived in the United Arab Emirates, the final leg of a Gulf trip aimed at drumming up investments, Emirati state media said Wednesday.

The Tour included stops in Qatar and Saudi Arabia and saw Erdogan preside over the signing of lucrative deals to boost the ailing Turkish economy.

“Erdogan has arrived in the UAE on an official visit, accompanied by Turkiye’s First Lady Emine Erdogan,” the UAE’s official WAM news agency said early Wednesday, using an alternate spelling for Turkiye.


Pakistan PM calls UAE president, thanks him for economic support

Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday conveyed his profound gratitude to UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for his firm support to the economic and financial stability of Pakistan, which certainly manifested his deep affection and care for the welfare of the people of Pakistan.

During a telephonic call with the UAE President, the prime minister also conveyed gratitude for the deposits of $1 billion in the State Bank of Pakistan, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also conveyed gratitude to the UAE President for his kind invitation for COP28 and appreciated UAE’s role in combating climate change.


Emirates gold working on return of UAE responsible sourcing accreditation

Dubai-based Emirates Gold DMCC, one of the largest gold refineries in the Middle East, said on Monday that it was working on getting back to the “good delivery” list, certification scheme that sets responsible sourcing rules.

The United Arab Emirates temporary removed Emirates Gold, which has been operating for 30 years, from its “good delivery” list from July 7, the government website showed last week.

“The Suspension of the UAE Good Delivery accreditation is merely a temporary suspension and management are working with the Emirates Bullion Committee to resolve their concerns and have the accreditation reinstated,” the refinery said in a statement.


Japan, Qatar upgrade energy ties during lng talks

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida agreed to strengthen energy ties and economic cooperation with major gas producer Qatar on Tuesday, the final leg of a Gulf tour that has focused on securing energy supplies and promoting Japanese high tech.

Kishida, who has been urged by Japan’s gas lobby to secure new liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar, held talks with the emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. They agreed to upgrade their countries’ relationship to strategic from comprehensive, “especially in energy, economy, defence, security and academic exchange,” the emir’s office said.

The Two countries did not announce new LNG deals on Tuesday, but Kishida told Sheikh Tamim that “LNG serves a crucial role in Asia for a realistic energy transition,” according to a Japanese foreign ministry statement.


Bahrain’s economy grows in q1 as non-oil sector rises 3.5pc

Bahrain posted a real gross domestic product growth rate of 2 percent in the first quarter of 2023, fueled by a rise of 3.5 percent in the non-oil sector, showed the country’s recent economic report.

According to the Bahraini Ministry of Finance and National Economy, the average quarterly increase of the annual non-oil GDP has reached about 5.7 percent since implementing its Economic Recovery Plan in October 2021.

The Initiative aims to stimulate growth, attract investments and create job opportunities for the through five priorities and 27 programs.

According to the latest figures, the non-oil economic sectors experienced positive annual growth, with the transportation and communications sphere posting the highest growth rate of 11.2 percent, revealed the ministry’s quarterly report.

This rise was backed by the expansion of several sector indicators, including the 42.3 percent increase in arrivals through Bahrain International Airport and the 32.1 percent rise in total aircraft movement.


Saudi Arabia unveils plans to unveil 59 logistics zones by 2030

Saudi Arabia has announced plans to establish 59 logistics zones by 2030, a move that underscores the country’s commitment to its ambitious Vision 2030, officials revealed at a reception held in London.

The Event, hosted by the Saudi Transport General Authority, was attended by key figures such as the Saudi Ambassador to the UK Prince Khalid Bn Bandar Bin Sultan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Acting Chairman of the Transport General Authority, Dr Rumaih Al Rumaih, as well as ambassadors, delegates, members of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and stakeholders in the sector.

In his speech, Prince Khalid emphasised the significance of the recent developments in the country’s maritime sector, attributing them to the Kingdom’s steadfast dedication towards realising Vision 2030.


Qatar, Jordan discuss parliamentary ties

HE the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr Hamda bint Hassan al-Sulaiti met with President of the Jordanian Senate Faisal al-Fayez, during her current visit to Amman.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the existing bilateral relations in parliamentary field and ways to support and bolster them. They also discussed developments in the Palestinian arena and underscored their centrality, as well as the importance of supporting them, in pursuit of promoting the Palestinian people’s right to establish their independent state with the Holy Jerusalem as its capital.

Meanwhile, the two sides condemned the burning of copies of the Holy Qur’an by extremists in a number of countries and stressed that such outrageous behaviours provoke millions of Muslims worldwide and undermine efforts of rapprochement and peaceful coexistence between religions, calling for the importance of curbing blasphemy.
