On this historic day, the Pakistani community in Bahrain joins together in joyous celebration, unifying under the green and white flag to commemorate Pakistan’s independence as a free and sovereign nation.

PAGE: Do you miss Pakistan? How would you celebrate 14th August if you were in Pakistan?
Muhammad Mohsin Abbasi: Pakistan, my dear motherland, occupies a unique place in my heart, and I recall the days I spent there with fondness. When compared to the festivities abroad as an expatriate Pakistani, the celebration of Independence Day in Pakistan is unparalleled. As a former member of the Boy Scouts of Pakistan, I recall the joyous events we would hold, embracing the essence of patriotism, unity, and appreciation.
Back home, the atmosphere is electrifying on Independence Day, with a sense of national pride sweeping every corner of the country. This wonderful occasion brings people from all walks of life together. The streets are filled with brilliant displays of national flags, and everyone, young and old, dresses up in traditional and colorful costumes. The joy of the children is contagious, adding to the fun of the day.
In Pakistan, Independence Day is not only observed by individuals or families but it is also observed as a collective event that crosses all boundaries. Schools, organisations, and towns all participate in the celebrations, making it a really unifying event.
If given the chance to visit Pakistan on Independence Day, I would grab the opportunity to relive the joyous celebrations of the past. I would decorate my home with bunting, proudly fly the Pakistani flag, and pay my respects at Mazar-e-Quaid, honouring the nation’s founder. The beautiful get-togethers with family and friends, cherishing the companionship of loved ones and exchanging stories of our common ancestry, would be the highlight of my vacation. Attending celebratory gatherings, particularly musical concerts, is a requirement since music has a unique way of joining hearts and igniting emotions.
PAGE: Could you share the feelings of the Pakistani diaspora about Pakistan?
Muhammad Mohsin Abbasi: Living away from our homeland frequently intensifies our need for the familiar sights, sounds, and sensations of Pakistan. The distance reminds us of the strong bonds we have with our country and loved ones.
As expats, we crave the cultural richness and traditions that distinguish Pakistan. Every facet of our nation maintains a special place in our hearts, from the vivid festivals to the warm hospitality of the people.
Our affection for Pakistan is unshakeable no matter where we are in the globe. It is a love that crosses borders and connects us to our fellow citizens, even in faraway nations.
While the journey of life may take us far from our homeland, the connection we have with Pakistan remains deeply rooted within us. Each day spent away only intensifies our affection and attachment to the land we call home.
PAGE: What questions do Pakistani-descent kids/your kids ask about Pakistan?
Muhammad Mohsin Abbasi: I am the proud father of two inquisitive children who are constantly captivated by Pakistan and its rich history. Our roots are in Azad Kashmir, and we live in Karachi. We travel Pakistan every year, and my children recently had the opportunity to experience Kashmir for the first time. The awe-inspiring beauty of Kashmir has left them yearning to visit new areas within Pakistan.
My children are fascinated by our country’s various landscapes, which include calm seas, meandering rivers, enchanting lakes, majestic mountains, immense deserts, and breathtakingly gorgeous valleys. The fascination of Pakistan’s natural beauty has instilled in them a strong desire to explore.
When we talk about Pakistan, my kids are enthralled, showering me with questions about its history, renowned landmarks, how to go there, and, most importantly, safety and security concerns. They’ve heard of bad situations in the past, and as responsible parents, we make it a point to address their worries and emphasise the safety precautions in place. Their affection for Pakistan attests to our country’s strong character, despite the obstacles it has undergone. I hope that as they grow, their passion for Pakistan deepens and they continue to enjoy the rich legacy and breathtaking beauty that our country has to offer.
