Kashif Manzoor Alvi:Â The ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) underscores its established presence in the world of T20 cricket. Having evolved over the years, it has significantly contributed to the development of cricket in Pakistan, providing a platform for local talent to shine and compete with international players. This season, like its predecessors, is expected to bring exciting cricket to fans, despite the evolving landscape of T20 leagues globally. The PSL’s resilience and its role in nurturing cricket in Pakistan are commendable.
PAGE: How would you comment on the star quotient in the foreign player roster?
Kashif Manzoor Alvi:Â The observation about the star quotient taking a hit this season due to the emergence of leagues like the ILT20 and SA20 is reflective of the global competition for top cricketing talent. These leagues, offering more lucrative opportunities in arguably more attractive destinations, present a challenge for the PSL. However, this scenario also offers the PSL a chance to innovate and focus on developing local talent, making the league a cradle for emerging Pakistani cricketers. The true essence of the PSL’s success will be in its ability to adapt and remain a competitive platform for showcasing cricketing talent.

Kashif Manzoor Alvi:Â The fact that each of the six franchises has won the league at least once speaks volumes about the competitive balance within the PSL. This parity is a positive aspect, showcasing the league’s unpredictability and the evenly matched nature of the competition. It enhances the viewer’s experience, as every match is a potential surprise. This balance is crucial for the league’s long-term success and attractiveness to fans and players alike.
PAGE: Your views on the ban on all betting sponsorships as official broadcaster:
Kashif Manzoor Alvi:Â The decision by the Pakistan government to ban betting and surrogacy sponsorships for PSL franchises aligns with efforts to maintain the integrity of the sport and protect its image. Similar to the BCCI’s stance with the IPL, this move underscores the importance of ethical sponsorships and the impact of sports on societal values. While it may affect the financial aspects of the league, prioritising ethical considerations over monetary benefits is a commendable approach, ensuring the sport remains a positive influence in society.
