Surging overseas remittances bolster Pakistan’s economy

The State Bank of Pakistan announced on Monday (April 8) that overseas workers’ remittances surged to a remarkable US$3 billion in March 2024.

During the month under review, remittances showed robust growth, increasing by 31.3 per cent on a month-on-month basis and by 16.4 per cent year-on-year, according to a news release.

For the first nine months of the fiscal year 2023-24, workers’ remittances totalled US$21.0 billion, compared to US$20.8 billion during the same period last year.

March 2024 saw significant inflows from key sources, with remittances mainly originating from Saudi Arabia (US$703.1 million), the United Arab Emirates (US$548.5 million), the United Kingdom (US$461.5 million), and the United States of America (US$372.5 million).
