World ocean day is the most renowned day for the ocean. The day was first celebrated in 1992 following the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, held in Rio de Janeiro. In 2008, United Nations General Assembly was decided that on June 8, 2009, the day will be celebrated as World Ocean Day by the UN.
